Anemia and Me

I was diagnosed with  iron deficiency anemia in 2008. I thought it was normal to bleed a lot during my monthly period. I was worried a little bit though because I only not bled a lot, but also big blood clots are coming out of my body, too. I noticed I became weaker and weaker each day. I loss appetite, always tired even though I wasn't doing anything at all. I slept a lot as well during those times. What I didn't understand is that I always have my regular CBC and other lab tests, but my doctor didn't mention anything about my blood count that was very low.So, it was like nearly a year before the diagnosis was confirmed.

When we moved back to Texas and had a lab works done with my kidney doctor or (nephrologist). He was alarmed how low my CBC was. He immediately sent me to an emergency room to get admitted for a blood transfusion. I was at the hospital for a couple of days. I was advised to eat plenty of foods rich in iron and to take an iron supplement twice a day. Then, also I have to go back to his clinic every other week for another CBC test....and get a shot every time.

Anyway, below is n info I found on Wikipedia about iron deficiency anemia which I found very useful for a person like me who has anemia.

Iron-deficiency anemia is a common anemia (low red blood cell level) caused by insufficient dietary intake and absorption of iron, and/or iron loss from intestinal bleeding, parasitic infection, menstruation, etc. Red blood cells contain iron and are not formed when iron is deficient.
Iron deficiency causes approximately half of all anemia cases worldwide, and affects women more often than men. World estimates of iron deficiency occurrence are somewhat vague, but the true number probably exceeds one billion persons. In women over 50 years old the most common cause of iron-deficiency anemia is chronic gastrointestinal bleeding from non parasitic causes, such as gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers or gastrointestinal cancer.
Anemia is one result of advanced-stage iron deficiency. When the body has sufficient iron to meet its needs (functional iron), the remainder is stored for later use in all cells, but mostly in the bone marrow, liver, and spleen. These stores are called ferritin complexes and are part of the human (and other animals) iron metabolism systems. Ferritin complexes in humans carry approximately 4500 iron atoms and form into 24 protein subunits of two different types.

Bean Sprout, Rich in Iron

Posted by Cecile at 2/18/2012 10:09:00 PM 0 comments
When I was diagnosed with the type2 diabetes, I was so scared! I didn't want to die with such disease that is why I started exercising, and eating a healthy diet. I eat very little foods 5 times a day. By doing these simple things, I was able to lower my blood sugar and avoid taking oral medicine for diabetes and insulin. I loss weight, too.

Now, I am anemic and my doctor advised me to take iron supplements, eat foods rich in iron. Since I love to eat green and leafy vegetables, my blood count went up. I also learned that bean sprout and swiss chard are iron-rich foods. These foods are few of my favorites.

My son loves to play video games at home. Sometimes I set limits on him with this thing because it isn't good for him to play for long hours. So, I just let him play during weekends like Friday night and on Saturday (no Sunday though). Anyway, he loves the Warcraft so much. Thank goodness the wow private server is there to help me and my son play safely. My son can play under the rules set by the administrator of the said website or Warcraft website, thus the game's dynamic is different that the others. So, if you want to play this exciting games, hurry and visit their site for more info.

About a month ago, my girlfriends and I went to the mall to do some shopping. We meet regularly to chat, watch movie even window shop when we feel like going out. Normally, we do shopping and have lunch afterward. We always have fun and excitement. Last time we went to the mall, I bought myself a sunglasses at H&M store. It was cheap and nice looking that is why I bought it. I jus wished I can get myself a brand name sunglasses like the julbo brand. I like their sunglasses for they are stylist and fashionable not to mention that are quality made. Oh well, maybe my husband would buy me one this March for my birthday present. I am crossing my fingers now, lol.

Unhealthy Foods

While I was browsing on my facebook account, I can't help but have noticed this image. It is mind bugging. To think that these foods are widely eaten by most people everyday. I am not fond of these foods at all nor serve it to my family. I came from a family who eats healthy foods such as veggies, meat, fish and seafood. So when I came here to the US, I was surprised that my husband likes them a lot, not realizing how bad they are for your body...I started eating them, too. Don't get me wrong, but still I can't live eating these foods a lot. I still crave for the foods I grew up eating. Good thing I was able to teach my son and hubby to love healthy foods. Now, they eat veggies and fresh fruits and seafood a lot.

Anyway, even though these foods are everywhere, and it is very tempting to eat them often...I was able to deprived my family of these cancer - causing foods. They are yummy alright, but more often...yummy foods are not always healthy and good for your body. Now, is the time to eat healthy and take care of you health.
