Four Questions to Ask Your Doctor

Posted by Cecile at 5/11/2011 04:58:00 PM
Back when I was still healthy, I never thought I would be able to see a doctor very often till I was diagnosed with "Hypertension" that eventually contributed largely on my kidney disease. Even then, I didn't know what to say or do. Good thing I have a very patient and supportive spokesman, my husband :-). He knows just what to ask my doctors every time they say "pre-disease, borderline or mildly elevate" to describe my condition. If you happened to hear these words, here are 4 important questions to ask:

1. How likely it is that I will get this disease?
2. What are the risks and benefits of drug treatment when used long-term in my situation?
3. Is there any evidence that drug treatment for my condition will prevent bad outcomes, like a heart attack or bone fracture?
4. What lifestyle measures can I take to reduce my risk, and when would you like to see me again to gauge my success?

I think asking these question will help educate you the things you should know about your health condition and what can you do to help the doctor heal you or take care of you.
