Avandia's Serious Side Effects!

Posted by Cecile at 5/26/2010 08:02:00 AM 0 comments
This morning while I was checking my emails, I got one with a subject about warning to all diabetic. I immediately opened it and the message talked about the medicine called "Avandia." I have no idea what that medicine for but, was glad I am not into it. This medicine just like any other medicines has a very bad side effect. It can cause heart failure, heart attack and liver failure. So, if you or someone you know is taking this medication, you better contact your doctor and ask about it. Whether this is true or not, it is better to be safe than never.

Cinnamon, Helps Lower Blood Sugar Level

Being a diabetic person, it i hard for me to lower my blood sugar level due to my love for foods and eating. I was borne and raised in the Philippines where rice is part of every meal; I still can't resist eating Filipino foods with steamed rice. As we know, rice turns into sugar when eaten, thus making blood sugar high especially if you are diabetic, it is bad! Right now, I am trying my best to eat less carbs particularly white rice, bread, sweet foods, as well as pastas. Anyway, insulin shot once a day, oral medication twice a day, cinnamon capsule, bitter melon tea and ground cinnamon help lower my blood sugar level. Talking about cinnamon, there are many use of it aside from lowering BSL, if you are interested, look online and be amazed with what cinnamon can do for your health. Note: be sure to choose cinnamon that won't damage your kidney!

Food for Thought

A recent study of over two thousand adults over age sixty-five found that what you eat could impact your chances of getting Alzheimer’s disease. The diet that provided the most benefits was a Mediterranean-style diet, which differs from typical American fare in that it is high in fish, vegetables, and legumes and low in red meant and poultry. Those study participants that followed a healthy, Mediterranean diet were about 40 percent less likely to experience cognitive decline than their less-healthy counterparts. Researchers suggest that being in the habit of eating healthy long before Alzheimer’s or dementia is likely to be a key factor in preventing cognitive impairment.

Recall on Children's Liquid Allergy and Cold Medicines

Posted by Cecile at 5/07/2010 11:43:00 AM 1 comments

Allergy season is here once again. I hate it that my son suffers from it every time; he coughs and coughs and couldn't sleep at night! We tried many allergy medicines for his allergy.... from Benadryl, Motrin, Tylenol to Zyrtec. Finally we found one that works for him which was Zyrtec, but recently, there was a recall on both medicines as well as few of cold medicines for children. Read the news at http://www.foxnews.com/health/children/index.html or visit http://www.mcneilproductrecall.com for more info. Now that these name brands can't be trusted anymore unless they fix the problems, we decided to buy store brand medicines for they are FDA approved and safe for children.

If you have purchased any of these medications, and wanted refunds for them, visit the website provided here and follow the instructions on how. I already sent the manufacturer/distributor my request for refunds and waiting for their phone call for confirmation.

Going Back on Weight Loss Plan

Posted by Cecile at 5/02/2010 10:42:00 PM 0 comments
I know it's been awhile since I posted my last entry here. I have been busy with many things that I have been neglecting this blog. I actually have plenty of topics that I can post here, but due to my other 5 blogs, I cannot find time to update it. If I have to monetize this, I better do more than neglecting it.

Anyway, my last check up went well, except hat I gained few (3) pounds. I know the very reason why and that is I stopped logging in the foods I ate....not to mention that I have been eating Pinoy foods coupled with whit rice. Oh no...I knew better and I still didn't do the right thing. And so, our plan didn't materialize. Now I have to see him again once a month instead of every three months. I blew it and my husband was not very happy about it.

My doctor and I agreed that I will need to lose weight so we won't see each other often :-)! I am trying to lose weight, eat right, jot down the foods I eat and exercise. I hope when I see him again two weeks from now, my weight is at least back to where it was when we made that plan.
